Erasmus+ for Internships is a program for international students to gain scientific experience in another European country.

Christos Karamperis joined us in October 2022 with Erasmus+ for Internships from Thessaloniki, Greece. He is a seventh semester physics student at "Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh)'' and is with us for one semester to complete a research internship. Under the supervision of Dr. Liheng Tian, Christos is doing research on "Investigation of radiobiological response of normal tissue of mice after proton irradiation".

"I am interested in proton therapy as a type of radiation therapy for cancer, and Germany offers many opportunities to gain experience in this topic. The research in proton therapy at TU Dortmund is very interesting and I am sure that I will get many new insights by working with Prof. Lühr,'' Christos explains the reason why he decided to spend a semester abroad at TU Dortmund. His father was born in Ulm, which gives Christos a special relationship with Germany.

"I hope that my stay in Mr. Lühr's research group will give me a new perspective for my further scientific education and allow me to gain practical experience in another country.'' The stay abroad will help him achieve his professional goals, as he would like to work as a medical physics expert in a hospital after completing his master's degree.

When asked what Christos likes most about Germany, he replies, "I love the fries in the Mensa."

For Christos, communication with Professor Lühr and the International Affairs Department was very easy and helpful. Now Christos is here until the end of March 2023 and has got his desired internship.
