Medical Physicists in industry

The main task of medical physicists is to ensure and improve patient safety by means of accuracy and reliability of diagnosis and therapy. The scope of activity in the industry is broad, but generally specializes in the construction, conception, design and further development of technical equipment used in diagnosis and therapy. Examples include computer and magnetic resonance tomographs for diagnostics as well as linear accelerators and proton accelerators for the therapy of cancer. Typical tasks are therefore the development of state-of-the-art devices and products with the aim of integrating these complex systems into everyday clinical practice. This includes conception, clinical introduction as well as support of complex systems over their entire life cycle as well as on-site training of clinical staff in the use of new technologies.
