Successful participation in PTCOG 2023
Our PhD student Lena Heuchel and our Postdoc Dr. Abdelkhalek Hammi successfully represented our research group at the 61st annual PTCOG 2023 meeting in Madrid.
Lena Heuchel presented the "Dirty & Clean Dose" concept developed and tested together with the West German Proton Center and RaySearch. This is a new method to take into account the uncertainties arising from the use of a constant relative biological efficacy of protons during radiation planning.
Dr. Abdelkhalek Hammi investigated the sparing effect of FLASH radiotherapy on the immune system of cancer patients compared to other radiation methods using protons. FLASH radiotherapy is a new treatment paradigm in which radiation dose is applied to the patient's tumor at an extremely high dose rate in fractions of a second.
Founded in 1985, the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG) is a worldwide non-profit organization of scientists and professionals who have been working on issues related to radiation therapy with protons, light ions and heavy charged particles. The PTCOG annual meeting is held once a year to present innovative research in the field of particle therapy.
